An American Hero

A brief while back, I wrote a tribute piece to Billerica resident and current warrior, Sergeant John Giasullo. Sergeant Giasullo is back in the news for yet another outstanding and important contribution to the war in Afghanistan and the security of the United States.

Sergeant Giasullo is described as one of his platoon’s trauma team leaders at a facility that gets just about every kind of medical condition imaginable passing through its life or death doors; Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment. According to Sergeant Giasullo’s Commanding Officer, Captain Joe Black, USA, his platoon is the best medical platoon in the United States Army “from top to bottom”.

The following is the biggest complement that any medical facility can receive is that it is preferred over neighboring facilities. To that end:

Some of these patients (treated at Sergeant Giasullo’s facility) include the Afghan National Army (ANA), Pearson said. He said the ANA has its own aid station, but because the 1st Sqdn., 61st Cav. Regt. aid station offers more medications and a more advanced facility, ANA Soldiers will often come to it.

You can read the entire story here while it lasts online.

Once again, Sergeant Giasullo, thank you for your service to your nation and for your honorable representation of the town of Billerica, MA. To the family of Sergeant Giasullo, thank you for the support you give him each day that enables him to perform such wonderful and near miraculous work on behalf of the United States government and each of her citizens. Without your support, his story might not be possible.

With warm regards and well wishes to you and yours,

HMCS(SS) Richard T. MacDonald, USN, Retired
