I received the following in an e-mail from one of the leaders of the Billerica Watcher’s Group; a group I no longer belong to or associate with over differences regarding their leadership, their arbitrary and capricious censorship policy when members criticize commentary by the leaders directly, and their tenuous free speech philosophy in general. I am posting this plea in spite of my personal feelings about the integrity of the group, because what they are asking for is easy to give and beneficial to the town. I am hopeful that my readership will add support to this cause in substantial numbers. Please take a moment to read the letter and to send a comment to the EPA. We all have a stake in the town’s health; so, let’s do what we can to eradicate a problem that has been with us way too long. Thank you. –Rick
The Town of Billerica Needs YOUR help And There Is Less Than 48 hours left to comment.
The EPA comment period for the Final Phase of Iron Horse Park Cleanup ends THIS FRIDAY — 1/14/11.
The EPA is recommending a 20 year cleanup (SD-4), WE need tell them we want the 5 year cleanup (SD-6) ALONG with additional ground water monitoring.
You can submit a private email, a written letter AND/OR fill out the easy link (10 seconds) below (which is an email sent DIRECTLY to the EPA.)
Quick summary:
It has taken the EPA 26 years to get to where we are today. Don’t be fooled by the capped landfill and the greenery around IHP – there are still toxins/pollutants in the soil, surface water and ground water. The EPA’s proposed plan is going to take another 20 years once it is started (they don’t commit to that, of course). The optional plan (SD-6) will take only 5 years to complete and is more thorough and is removing contaminated soil.
