The Capitol Police in Connecticut are refusing to allow the Gadson Flag which was used by the United States Marine Corps during the birth of our nation, and likely raised and lowered by a young John Paul Jones. The “flag” actually first appeared in 1775 and was described by “An American Guesser” [now believed to be Benjamin Franklin] thusly:
Colonel Gadson, later to become General Gadson, presented his flag to Commodore Hopkins, Commander-In-Chief of the Navy. He then presented one to the Congress and to his state legislature in Charleston. The first Navy jack also used the snake stretched out over a field of 13 stripes, alternating red and white, although the complete accuracy of the First Navy Jack cannot be accurately determined.
The appearance of the first Union Jack of 13 stripes of alternating red and white with 13 stars on a blue field to represent a new constellation is unknown, but appears on a 1785 engraving of the frigate USS Philadelphia.
The Capitol police first agreed to allow the flying of the flag, but then rescinded their decision, following which State Representative Michael Lawlor, co-chair of the judiciary committee, was reported to have said in a news account, Generally speaking, most people would agree the top of the Capitol Is not the place for partisan political flags”
A group of Marines are calling on their fellow Marine, Attorney General “Dick” Blumenthal to come out and support his brothers, who still respect his service in spite of his lie about serving in Vietnam. All it takes is a minute of “Dick’s” time to issue an order to fly the Gadson flag as a symbol of our successful revolution, but he’s nowhere to be found. His current “hidey-hole” is apparently classified.
Some claim that only a flag that represents the United States, currently, can be flown. The fact of the matter is that the United States Navy has been under orders to fly the First Navy Jack on every ship in the United States Navy until the Global War on Terrorism is won:
Prior to that, the First Navy Jack was ordered to fly from the oldest ship in the United States Navy beginning with the bicentennial celebration and used by such vessel until it is decommissioned or transferred to the inactive states. At that time, the new oldest ship in the fleet would hold that honor.
From the United States Navy History website:
By an instruction dated 31 May 2002 (SECNAV Instruction 10520.6), the Secretary of the Navy directed the use of the rattlesnake jack in place of the union jack for the duration of the Global War on Terrorism.
The bottom line is that the Democrat run state of Connecticut associates the Gadson Flag with the “Tea Party Movement” and is citing it, therefore as political. However, they deny that flying a flag specially designed for homosexual rights is political and refuse to allow a piece of our nation’s history, specifically attached to the 4th of July to have parity or equal rights.
Based upon Connecticut’s reasoning and action, I prefer the “Culpeper Flag” to remind the Capitol Police and the knuckleheaded “leaders” of Connecticut government that liberty is a valuable thing; so valuable, in fact, that people are willing to die to preserve it and to defend it if they feel it is being stolen.

I have to say how disappointed with people in general and politicians and members of the press, specifically, for how little they know about the military considering we are near the 9th year of war in Afghanistan. During this time, the military was also engaged in a war in Iraq. We’ve been in a previous war in Iraq to repel an attempt to take over Kuwait, and a war in the Balkans to stem the river of blood created by ethnic cleansing.
With all of the blood shed by our troops; mostly very young men and women, one would think that the majority of citizens would have some interest in the welfare of our battlefield warriors and those who come home maimed for life. But, we find that the same civilian leadership that demands that field generals and special operations geniuses like General McChrystal subordinate themselves to elected leaders; no matter how big a horse’s ass they may be. As a military retiree, I find the majority of the American public absolutely repugnant and undeserving for the liberty they now have and so willingly give away. I don’t know how you all sleep at night, but without the military, you wouldn’t be sleeping at all. You should remember that.
