BILLERICA β A 59-year-old Woburn woman suffered minor injuries after striking and killing a moose near that Concord Road exit ramp on Route 3 in Billerica. The moose apparently died on impact and the driver of the vehicle was taken to Lahey Clininc for treatment.
It took road crews about an hour to remove the carcass and reopen all lanes to traffic, which had been funneled down to two lanes within 10 minutes of the accident.
The State Police barracks in Andover, is investigating the incident.
Aside from this incident involving a moose, there have been several incidents of motor vehicles striking deer. In particular, last week, a tractor trailer obliterated an entire herd of deer walking on RT 128 in Peabody. The driver was not injured. On Sunday, another driver struck a deer in N.H. Please use caution when driving and keep an eye open for the unexpected.
