A lot of people who took “advantage” of the cash for clunkers deal got something that they weren’t prepared for: an income tax bill! Judging by the level of upset, one has to wonder whether or not these people have ever paid taxes. If they have had to pay taxes to the point of receiving a tax return check for overpaying their taxes; then, they know that the government taxes any and all money they give you as a tax refund, rebate or what have you as new incom – even if you’d already been taxed on that money!
Just like there was no free incentive to purchase cars, there will be no free health care. Everything has to be paid for by someone, and year after year, less and less people pay taxes. The wealthy can only carry so much of the load. In my view, it’s time to find the weeds in the garden of welfare and force them to either get off of their dead asses and work or go hungry, homeless and their illnesses untreated. We are past the point of excusing bad judgment leading to alcoholism, drug addiction and stay at home and watch TV addiction. I’ve spoke before about the waste of taxpayers money going to educate people who do not want to be educated and who refuse to study and work at their assignments.
These sluggards have ever right to make whatever life choice they desire, so long as that choice does not infringe upon the rights of others. However, if they choose to drop out of school and suffer a foreseeable life of poverty and ignorance, the government has no business compensating them for stupid choices; especially with other people’s money and property. When government does so, it is stripping the rights of one group to appease or make better (and therefore, unequal) the rights of another albeit lower producing group or looters or what could be called a parasite class.
And in this particular case a group that is not contributing, not pulling its weight, not supporting their neighbors or nation in any capacity is getting the benefit of an easier life created and produced by the class being stripped of it’s personal property and individual liberty. Is this the America of Jefferson? So, why are they being rewarded? What power authorizes the government to infringe upon the individual rights and liberties of its citizens in contravention to the United States Constitution? This propensity to serve the lazy and n’er-do-well is a mistake integral to socialism of any form, and it is what created most of the problems we are now suffering with fiscally and culturally, today
Not all people need to be home owners, and forcing banks to lend to people who they know are going to default is outrageous. Allowing banks to ignore laws like Glass-Stegall and other anti-bucket shop provisions established by the SEC and the FED to compensate them for going along with risky loans is equally outrageous, if not down right criminal. I plan on writing more on this topic later. For now, it is just illustrative of how a powerful government, unchecked by the people in an anti-business climate can be a disaster.
Yes, business entities did get greedy and were continuing to sell credit default swaps on bonds as a way of trying to save the unsavable. Yes, business; in particular, as regards the merger between Citicorp and Travelers did some unsavory and outright illegal deals. Instead of cracking down on them, the Congress nullified Glass Steagall by passing the Commodity Future Modernization Act (CFMA) and getting President Clinton to sign this very stupid and obviously egregious law. This was later made even worse by Congress passing and President Clinton signing the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA). Don’t misunderstand me, Republicans were right there for the ride, including Presidential candidate Juan McCain.
With all of this in the history books, I wonder if the government will view all of the bailout money thev’ve lent to businesses and financial powerhouses like Goldman Sax as income and tax them the corporate or personal income tax rate for the amount (earned/received)? Or, will they just let them walk away when the so called investment loans are repaid with interest (minus taxes on profits made along the way). What do you think? I think we shouldn’t trust Congress what-so-ever. They’ve proven their ineptness through idiotic legislation like Sarbanes-Oxley written in anger instead of through a deliberative process or rational thought. And they’ve proven the need to weaken them by shrinking both the size and power of central government and reducing their influence to just the essentials or protecting the nation and the individual rights of her citizens.
Many of the people riding in the wagon are way past due to get out of the wagon and help push. If any group of people were to be “reported” as fishy to the White House, it’s this group. Sorry, I forgot that the White House took down fishy snitch line
Government needs to get the hell out of the business of the American people and let free market forces drive a recovery. That recovery will occur much quicker and there will be a lot less pain than continuing this farciscal spending spree government has us on. There are tons of jobs at Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s and the like. Those jobs offer buy in health care opportunities.
If people need health care then let them take those jobs. If they are healthy and not significantly disabled and can’t get one of those jobs, well, I guess that speaks volumes about that individual. Parents should be teaching their children to pay attention in school. They should be participating in the education of their children. Success is a combination of natural abilities fused to the treasures accumulated by hard work, study and strong personal principles. Success will never come from being served by the government. The government will only serve you what is left over or what may cause you to yield your vote to those in power.
