While President Obama wastes time drinking a beer with a police sergeant and an apparently overly sensitive and recalcitrant Harvard Professor who will not admit that his inappropriate conduct; not that of the police officer was the cause of a problem brought up at a presidential press conference. President Obama will not simply, directly and succinctly admit that he shot his mouth off to defend a friend without knowing all of the facts in a manner that has increased an already high degree of stress and risk to police officers who must work with minority populations. The only thing bigger than President Obama’s vocabulary is his arrogance, his inexperience and his smiling insincerity when addressing the public.
The Cambridge Police Department, the Mayor and Governor Deval Patrick made mistakes as well that led to the dismissal of charges against the professor without knowing all of the facts. The professor is not the only person to shoot his mouth off and act uncooperatively with police investigating a possible crime in progress. He is not the only person to have been arrested on a misdemeanor charge for his conduct. What should have happened is that the system should have allowed the case to go to court, to give both the professor and the police sergeant to give testimony under oath and for the justice system to decide the matter under law instead of through political cronyism. It is no wonder that Deval Patrick’s poll numbers are plummeting – he has demonstrated an overwhelming degree of political stupidity and arrogance over his brief tenure. This latest move just adds another reason to boot him from office as soon as possible, and with luck, the Mayor of Cambridge will go with him.
This issue and “teaching moment” has done nothing to improve movement toward a “post racial” period. In fact, it has only served as a catalyst to bring out even more hate and anger as evidence by the Boston Police Officer/National Guardsman’s e-mail to the Boston Globe and to his friends and fellow guardsmen.
Additionally, Lee Landor, deputy press secretary for democrat Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer was forced to resign after she called Gates “a racist and referred to President Barack Obama as “O-dumb-a.” The dialogue has definitely been elevated thanks to a multitude of political figures getting involved in what should have been at worst, a minor misdemeanor case of disorderly conduct with a police officer. With a trail and testimony under oath behind them, it would have been much more clear than it is now who the racist was – because one person certainly had race in mind and let it blatantly drop from his tongue. Whatever happened to the rational goal of providing justice by getting to the truth and letting truth judge the measure of a man?
The unemployment rate is horrible and getting worse -
The BLS calculates the official unemployment rate, U-3, as the number of unemployed as a percentage of the civilian labor force. The civilian labor force consists of employed workers plus the officially unemployed, those without jobs who are available to work and have looked for a job in the last 4 weeks. Applying the data found in Table 2 yields an official unemployment rate of 9.1%, or a seasonally adjusted rate 9.4% for April 2009.Accounting for the large number of marginally attached workers and those working part-time for economic reasons raises the count of unemployed to 24.0 million workers for May 2009. Those numbers push up the U-6 unemployment rate to 15.9% or a seasonally adjusted rate of 16.4%.
And the Chinese have been warning the U.S. about spending and the soaring deficit, among other things:
The Chinese, who have the largest foreign holdings of U.S. Treasury debt at $801.5 billion, have been expressing worries that soaring deficits could spark inflation or a sudden drop in the value of the dollar, thus jeopardizing their investments. Chinese officials said those concerns were raised during Monday’s talks.
“We sincerely hope the U.S. fiscal deficit will be reduced, year after year,” Assistant Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao told reporters after the Monday talks had ended.
“The Chinese government is a responsible government and first and foremost our responsibility is the Chinese people, so of course we are concerned about the security of the Chinese assets,” Zhu said, speaking through an interpreter.
And then there’s Afghanistan:
(CNN) — The commander of the U.S. Marines conducting a push against the Taliban in southern Afghanistan said Wednesday that more Afghan security forces are needed to do the job.province.Helmand Marine Expeditionary Brigade in nd I’d like more,” said Brig. Gen. Larry Nicholson, commander of the 2nd”I’m not going to sugarcoat it. The fact of the matter is we don’t have enough Afghan forces. A
While over in Iraq: Increasing stresses in Iraq between U.S. and Iraqi Forces that need to be addressed (as reported by Fox News):
“Col. Ali Fadhil, a brigade commander in Baghdad told The Associated Press. “I also feel that the Americans soldiers are frustrated because they used to have many patrols, but now they cannot. Now, the American soldiers are in prison-like bases as if they are under house arrest. They are now more passive than before,”
In one case, an informant told a U.S. captain about a planned insurgent attack on a base from a town that hadn’t been a staging ground since 2007. The captain and his Iraqi counterpart argued over the response. The Iraqi won the argument and the Iraqi military beefed up its presence and imposed a curfew in the town. It was not the response Capt. Dustin Navarro would have taken, he told the Post.
Success in my mind was preventing the attack and capturing the individuals with admissible evidence,” Navarro, a cavalry commander from Dallas, was quoted saying. “Success in his mind is that there is no attack and no one gets caught. Any attack or any capture would have been perceived as a failure on his part because it means enemy forces and mortar systems were able to get inside his checkpoints.”
But he also said: “U.S. forces have an inherent right to self-defense and the authority to protect themselves.”
The defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity told FOX News that the agreement between the U.S. and Iraqi is a done deal so the U.S. is limited in its response.
“The fact of the matter is we signed a bilateral agreement and recognized Iraq’s sovereignty and no longer execute operations” under the 2003 U.N. Security Council resolution authorizing U.S. forces to enter Iraq.
“It is a change in mindset for all involved,” the official said.
How’s that for leadership? Do you have a son or daughter in Iraq or Afghanistan? I don’t and I’m steaming mad after reading the dirty deal our troops are getting with this “agreement”. I’m convinced more than ever that any continued U.S. support of these two buffoon nations is simply a waste of time, money, treasure and national blood. They need to come out now or they need to be unleashed and allowed to finish their jobs by whatever means and tools they have available!
What is getting done as our increasing strain in relationships with nuclear capable Pakistan continues to grow:
“ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan is objecting to expanded American combat operations in neighboring Afghanistan, creating new fissures in the alliance with Washington at a critical juncture when thousands of new American forces are arriving in the region.”
Iran has not let up in it’s determination to keep the world in chaos over their political and human rights mis-adventures:
Mousavi bewildered many followers by not directly replying to the ultimatum issued Friday by Iran’s most powerful figure, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His stern order to Mousavi and others: Call off demonstrations or risk being held responsible for “bloodshed, violence and rioting.”
Perhaps it does make sense to have a cold beer while you are burning down a nation…
