To those who don’t know me, I’ve been blogging for quite a while. I run three websites and two blogs. Lately, I’ve been reading and posting to the local “Topix” blog. I’ve noticed that a lot of Town Meeting members respond to local news stories there, and it seems I’ve stirred up a hornet’s nest with some of my commentary. That’s fine; I enjoy being somewhat provocative from time to time. It’s a good exercise for the mind.
My goal in posting has been to present valid alternate perspectives to the usual and customary with the hope that it may inspire one to dig a bit deeper than just what they read. I would like people to not just read the comments and the articles, but to analyze them as well, and to distinguish between fact and innuendo or speculation. To this end, I’ve provoked some local TM members, who seem to have an aversion to being held accountable or having their judgment questioned.
I have been more surprised, however, at the lack of facts and logic presented in their arguments. Their writings come across more as a childish tantrum than anything that can be verified as informative and authentic.
At one point along this recent journey I’ve been on, I’d given thought to becoming a TM member or a run for a selectman’s seat. But, more recently, I’ve come to the conclusion that I may be hitting some nerves and shaking up the broken establishment, that has successfully run the town into economic despair, and has contributed, by neglect, to the decrepit physical health and condition of our town’s appearance and infrastructure; especially over the last 15 years or so. More recently, the town’s poor business climate has caused businesses to move and raise an already bad unemployment rate. We just recently lost Jabil and over 300 jobs. The cost of those jobs is increased when one factors in employee retraining, and yet another abandoned, empty property as a pock mark on the face of our town. Recently, whenever I look up, our business zones are rapidly becoming as cratered as the moon.
So, I’ve decided to stay on Topix and to keep this blog up. I’m non-partisan in that I am neither a democrat nor a republican. I am something else as “The Riddler” would say. I believe strongly in individual rights and responsibilites and that the “nanny state” concept of government is obscene, immoral and a means to enslavement of the people by what should be its servant.
If I can get even one or two others to question the judgment of our town leaders and to help hold them accountable for the hell that they’ve wrought upon this town, then, the small amount of time and energy that I spend on this personally motivated project will have been worth it. Perhaps, I can contribute to leaving a better Billerica for my grand-children after all.
Thank you for stopping by and have a fabulous weekend.
